In their Lancet Oncology Commission, Wilfred Ngwa and colleagues1 provide a succinct account of the state of cancer in sub-Saharan Africa. However, one area requiring further insight is the role of African traditions and cultural attitudes, including traditional medicine, on cancer prevention, treatments, and outcomes in the region.
